A PRAYER FROM MATTHEW 8:18-27

Lord Jesus,
You are my Master and my Lord. When You issue a command may I be quick to obey—to follow You, wherever You may lead. May my following not only be in word, but also in deed.

Lord, if it brings hardship—even the threat of poverty or destitution—for You have promised that “these things” food and clothing “will be added to you” and that “your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” May I seek Your kingdom above all else and truly follow You  wherever You lead.

Lord Jesus, may my relationship with You take precedence over all human relationships: job, friendships, even family.

If You lead into a stormy sea, may I be quick to believe that You have done so in Your wisdom, and will not abandon me. May I walk by faith and not by sight and by fear. Above all else may I remember that You are indeed a man—and indeed God—that there is nothing in this universe that does not and will not obey Your voice.

Amen
