PERFECT PEACE

Proverbs 19:23 “The fear of the Lord leads to life, so that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.”

Reading this passage alone, it would be easy to think this is saying that if you fear God, no harm will come to you at all. However, we don’t have to look hard to find examples of God fearing men finding hard times. Just read through the book of Job.

This brings me to what I believe is one of the most misquoted verses of the Bible, Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”. It sounds like you can get whatever you want, so long as you do it though God. But when you read the verse in context, Paul is really telling us the secret to being content, or as Proverbs 19:23 puts it, being able to “sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.” When we put our full trust in God and rely on Him as our provider, then we can have peace, no matter what troubles may come our way.

Abba Father, give us focus to trust you and your plans and provision for us today. Allow us to see you working in and around us. Give us peace as we focus our eyes on you.
