WHAT KIND OF GOD DO WE SERVE?!

In today’s OT reading in Daniel, Daniel has a vision and needs assistance to discern its meaning. There are beasts, horns, seas and kings. Daniel asks a being standing close to him what the meaning of all this is and he receives an enlightening response. This vision concerns the end of time and the ten kings who will arise and who will be ruled by the ‘little horn’ for 3 ½ years. It is a future glimpse of what is coming. In this vision, Daniel sees Jesus being given glory, a kingdom, and everlasting dominion. He was also given a people who exist to serve Him.

What astounded me as I read about this vision was what I saw at the end of the vision. At the end of the vision, Daniel sees the little horn’s dominion being taken away and he is judged. But what amazed me was what occurred next. In the vision, when the ‘little horn’s’ dominion is taken away and destroyed forever it is given to ‘the people of the saints of the Highest One’! This everlasting dominion and greatness of the kingdom will be given to the saints! Our Savior, the Lord Jesus, is willing to share His dominion and authority with US….His saints! John writes, “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.” (Rev. 5:10) And Paul says, “Do you not know that you will judge angels?” (1 Co. 6:3)

If all that is true, and we know it is, then we should now begin prepping for these responsibilities – understanding that He will further refine and transform us. We should study His truth so it becomes part of who we are. We should allow Galatians 2:20 to characterize our present existence so that Christ lives in and through us today. We should walk through this life in obedience and service to our Savior so that when we experience the reality of Daniel’s vision it is not such a shock! What kind of king shares his authority with rebellious peasants? OURS DOES!
