OUR HOPE

Psalm 60:2-5
2: You have shaken the land and torn it open; mend its fractures, for it is quaking.

3: You have shown your people desperate times; you have given us wine that makes us stagger.

4: But for those that fear you, you have raised a banner to be unfurled against the bow.

5: Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered.

I don’t usually cherry pick verses when I write these blogs but given the circumstances of what’s happening in the world around us, I have made this blog the exception. Banks are failing left and right, trains are going off the rails, the weather is something else (massive snow falls, floods, hail}, and crimes of all sorts are happening all around us. I don’t pretend to know what it means; I just believe that it is unusual to have these things happening on a daily basis. Add to these events the war in Ukraine and the tensions between the U.S., Russia, China, Iran, etc. and it’s no wonder we have a sense of unease as we contemplate what’s ahead. Thank God that our hope isn’t dependent upon what Washington does or doesn’t do! “Our hope is based on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” as the old hymn tells us.

I especially like verses 4 and 5: “But for those that fear you, you have raised a banner to be unfurled against the bow. Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered.”

Even so, come Lord Jesus!
